Messing Up Isn’t Failing—It’s Proof You’re Learning!
Ever feel like you're terrified of making mistakes? Like one little slip-up will make the world explode into a million pieces? (Spoiler: It won’t.)
I used to think that too—until I realized something HUGE. Messing up isn’t failing. It’s literally the best proof that you’re learning.
Wait… Mistakes Are GOOD?!?
YES!!! Mistakes mean you’re trying, stretching, and growing. They mean you’re doing something new, something a little scary—but something that will make you better.
Think about it—do you know anyone who was amazing at something the first time they tried? (If you do, they’re probably robots 🤖)
The Only Real Mistake? Being Too Scared to Try.
Imagine a kid learning to ride a bike. They wobble, tip over, maybe even scrape their knee (ouch). Do they give up and say, “Welp, guess I’m never riding a bike!”? Nope!!! They get back up and try again—because that’s how learning works!
And guess what? That doesn’t stop when you grow up.
You have to be willing to mess up, look silly, and get it wrong before you get it right. That’s how you move forward. That’s how you build confidence. That’s how you grow.
How to Embrace the Magic of Mistakes
✅ Celebrate mistakes! (Yep, I said it. Try saying, “Woohoo, I messed up! Let’s fix it!!!”)
✅ Reframe failure. Instead of “I failed,” say, “I learned.”
✅ Keep going. Progress > Perfection. Always.
Speaking of learning… frustration is part of the process too!!! If you (or your little one) struggle with handling frustration when things go wrong, check out Episode 30 of The Magic of Littles Podcast where I share three simple frustration tolerance tips. (Hint: frustration logging, supportive play, and body mapping might just change the game!!!)
And if you're looking for fun ways to help kids build a growth mindset, grab the Growth Mindset Activity Pack—full of creative activities to turn challenges into learning moments!!!
The next time you catch yourself hesitating because you're scared of getting it wrong—take a deep breath and DO IT ANYWAY.
You’ve got this. And even if you mess up? That just means you’re on the right track. 😉
